How could a man called “Mama” have so many children?
Having eleven children, plus an outside kid, the 12th, must have been an easy task, or was it? Regardless, the family grew and grew, and then grew more. How? Who was this man? How did he do what he did? This book will answer your questions about Mama Newsome and may leave you wondering how such a man could do so much with so little. He had no formal education or money, yet he raised each of his children to be prosperous and to impact the nation and the world.
"A Man Called Mama” is a collection of uncollaborated essays written by all of his children and some of his grandchildren. This book is unusual because only one writer knows what the others have written about their father or grandfather. Each writer has written based on their personal experiences, relationships, impressions, influences, and memories of the man called Mama. Each essay will likely be similar in some respects, and very different in many other areas. Be prepared to discover the nuances, and in doing so, to compare each writer’s experience to another’s experience of life with Mama Newsome.
Everything is laid on the table. No holds barred. There will be some surprises. There will be many questions. There may be some tears and some disagreements, and some disappointments among the authors. There should be no concerns about veracity because each has written based on their own memory and understanding.
One of the book’s most exciting aspects should be if and how the siblings address the ‘extra’ sibling, the brother of another mother (he has his chapter in the book). Everyone says it’s “Mama’s” baby, but could it be “Papa’s”? Maybe! (Papa was the identical twin of Mama). Papa supposedly had no children. Is it possible that Mama and Papa discussed whether or not Papa should claim the baby? They were very close, after all. Mama was married and had eleven children, the last of whom was born ten years earlier.
This book is written to encourage families to connect and stay connected with one another, no matter the difference, distance, or disposition, because there will always be difficulties, disappointments, and disagreements. Let love and trust be the guiding forces among one another because family is stronger together than apart.
When challenges occur, let them be the very things that pull you back together as a group, and make you even more robust for the journey ahead. After all, blood is thicker than water and love triumphs over hate every day.
This book is written in chronological order by the siblings, and by the grandchildren who chose to contribute their accounts. Robert Sr. was deceased before the writing of this book; however, his story is written by Edward Newsome, with contributions from the other siblings.
Ina Newsome was married to J. D. "Mama" Newsome on April 10, 1937 and remained his wife continuously until his death on November 13, 1995. Her portion of this book was written posthumously by Travis Newsome. The other siblings had no idea their mother's accounts of her relationship with their father would appear in this book.. Because of the lack of collaboration between the siblings' writing, they had no idea why Travis was "fishing" for answers about their mother's relationship with their father. Even though this is a small but powerful portion written for her, the siblings will be shockingly pleasantly surprised. I've read enough. I need the whole thing. I'm clicking here to order right now.
