Daddy would fluently recite Psalm 27th from memory. It was pretty impressive to hear him do it, and when he did, there was absolute silence in his presence. There was something special about how he did it. The gruffness, which was pretty much his normal voice, was not there. His head would always be slightly bowed. Immediately thereafter, everything would return to normal, and one of his favorite words would be heard rolling off that same tongue and lips. Daddy was quite a character, very smart, but also very funny although he never cracked jokes.

In 1969, my older siblings had a new house built for my parents and the young erchildren who were still living at home. The really cool thing about this house was that it had indoor plumbing!!! In spite of this modern convenience, for a while, Daddy continued to use the outdoor toilet for #2 because he just couldn’t imagine the idea of anyone doing that inside the house. He used more graphic language to describe the situation.

9 years, 9 months, and 9 days after the 11th child of Mama Newsome and wife Ina was born, a baby showed up elsewhere. You know, outside. Now, remember, Daddy (Mama Newsome) had an identical brother whose name was James, but he was called (Papa) after a few years...........
